Huawei Ascend D Quad and what it could mean to the Iphone5

As the hordes of queues amassed outside Apple stores finally dies down we take a look at what the next big thing in the battle of the smartphone.

The smartphone market has never been more intense with all the major brands set to release new handsets in the coming months. Nokia is due to launch two Windows 8 powered Lumias, Samsung is set to launch the much anticipated Galaxy S IV and HTC is readying it's Windows Phone 8X.

However could the lesser known Chinese manufacturer, Huawei deliver an 'IPhone Killer'?

Boasting an impressive 1.2GHz quad core processor this device certainly packs a punch and has previously been touted as the 'world's fastest smartphone'.  The resolution on the 4.5 inch IPS HD screen helps beautifully display images captured from its 8MP camera.  The phone also comes with video calling capability via a front facing 1.3MP camera. All your videos and music can be stored via the 8GB of on board memory and you also have the option to increase capacity with the expandable Micro SD card slot.

The phone will be running Androids 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS so owners will be able to take advantage of the 1000's of apps available within the android store.

So where does the Huawei Ascend D Quad have the edge over Iphone5?

Huawei have mentioned that they will be releasing an 'XL' version for those people that need a bigger battery making this an ideal device for the business traveller who may have to go long periods between charging.

The phone will also be featuring NFC capability meaning the device can be used for contactless payments and data exchange on the go, something which Apple decided to omit from its latest release.

Where could the phone fall short against the competition?

With the phone sited to launch with Ice cream Sandwich 4.0, there will already be other Android phones in the market running the recently released 4.1 Jelly Bean. Rumours suggest that Jelly bean is being tested on older devices such as the S3 putting it at an advantage over the Ascend D Quad. Also when this phone was announced Quad Core phones were a new concect however most of the next gen smartphones should be looking to at least be running quad core processing power.

Proposed Release Date?

Well there is no firm date as yet, however it is being suggested that the device will be released in October 2012 following earlier reports of production delays.

Only time will tell if the proposed Huawei Ascend D Quad can shake up the party and rain on the Iphone5 parade. Although boasting some impressive specs, the phone brings nothing new to the party over the other handsets on the horizon.

Had the phone been released earlier in the year it might have managed to get the jump on Apple and Samsung.

The next few months will certainly be exciting and we'll know more about how it's performing when it's up against rivals in stores. The one thing that is for sure is with all these new devices being released so close together the clear winner will be the consumer.
